Let Them Come - X35 Earthwalker

Let Them Come was on of those games that got very little attention from the gaming community. We at X35 Earthwalker enjoyed Let Them Come. It’s one of those casual games that you just play and don’t take too seriously at all. X35 Earthwalker has completed the game completely.

Now Let Them Come was causal but that doesn’t mean it didn’t have some difficulty to it. Matter of fact as you get past the first few levels, the game throws players into some brutal stuff. Already you are dealing with a mixture of spiderlings, grunts, danglers and shielders which in the right combination becomes impossible for new players to defeat. The game let’s you know that it’s hard but it recognises that and puts systems in place to help. For example if you fail a wave too many times you get the option to shuffle the kinds of enemies you will encounter hopefully to get a more simple combination or get a free power up from the start.

Now since Let Them Come is a game where you stay in one place and fire your heavy machine gun down a hall way of mercilessly approaching aliens this means that everything depends on your load out and the aliens. The skill required to play is very low, making it for everyone but the skill required to beat the game and master is high because of how simple it is. Some waves literally require certain bullets and items to support you. Now you have four equipment to focus on. Gun or character upgrades, items, grenades and ammo. there are loads of stuff to choose from. Some combinations and items are better than others. The waves will get brutal, especially the bosses.

The type of ammo that you use is crucial in the waves. some ammo are way more useful than others. You do not get unlimited supply for special ammo. Only standard is unlimited. Everything else you pay per bullet. No, really, you got to pay for each bullet. Best to buy in bundles of fifty. Now the only ammo we think is useless is the cluster. Simply because it doesn’t do enough damage and others do a better job. Piercing ammo will be your best friend simple because it allows you to damage everything regardless of which alien is in front. It also easily kills the shielders who can be a big problem when protecting critical aliens behind them. The most powerful ammo is dark matter which disintegrate enemies on contact but after piecing, explosive is just awesome as it destroys everything in with satisfying results. Other ammo like shock, frost and incendiary depends on how you play and feel.

Grenades can be the thing that saves your life in critical moments. Like with the ammo, there is a variety of grenades but similar to ammo like shock, molotov, freeze and black hole. Now mines are very different and useful. Throw them down and then decide when to detonate. There is one boss in particular where the mines come in handy. Now items or secondary weapons are essential. They are what protects you from spiderlings and crabs jumping on you or for that extra damage. You start off with the knife which get rid of enemies about to pounce on your head. Immediately you will upgrade to more powerful items like the baton or throwing knives. Throwing knives are very good as it’s extra damage and can throw it out there and keep shooting. The best item according to X35 Earthwalker is the Tomahawk which is basically a stronger and bigger throwing knife but at  slower rate of fire.

The bosses are the absolute worse. They are large powerful aliens that will force players to concentrate. There is nothing casual about these guys. Aliens like the Smasher sort of prepare you for how a missed opportunity can ruin everything fast. Bosses like the Blob will have multiple enemies coming after you while you must block projectiles while waiting for opportunities. The last boss called experiment 7 is one that forces players to use the riot shield otherwise there is no way of winning. Basically, the bosses are a big deal.

Now the negatives with to Let Them Come is that they they shouldn’t have had the cluster ammo as it basically is garbage. We can’t see a reason for using it. It feels like the developers ran out of ideas. Also the cluster mod is a let down completely, we tried it once and then never again. The charge mod is great only for some of the ammo like the pierce. Explosive is not worth it. The story isn’t satisfying at all. it’s so simple and sort of cliche-ish. The ending cinematic is also not good enough either in terms of quality now we are aware that maybe this game didn’t have a large team obviously. They aren’t Bungie and 343 industries. it could be a few people so we aren’t going to hang them for it but we do think that the ending cinematic isn’t good enough. The walking animation for the host alien is exactly the same as the walking for the main character when moving from stage to stage. Not a bad thing but we did notice. Lastly the power up frenzy is too weak. X35 Earthwalker himself got a perfect rating for Frenzy and it didn’t kill things as fast as as double barrell did in some cases. We aren’t exaggerating. When we have double barrel or double damage we feel like it’s slaying much faster than anything else. Except unlimited ammo explosive ammo. that’s destructive.

Overall Let Them Come is just a great game. it’s simple, it’s fun, it’s difficult. When you complete the game and can do another campaign but a plus campaign, the mix up of aliens are more dangerous, the bosses are stronger and more difficult. Anyone can play this game but not everyone will complete the game. it’s about getting your resources and buy-in or upgrading the stuff that will make a difference and get you through the wave. Change your items to suit the situation. Which ammo do you use? Should you be spamming grenades? Stuff like that. Also the idea of buying your items is just a good idea. This game is still worth checking out and playing. Now Let Them Come may be a good game but it’s no where near as good as the… ‘Earth Walk!’

Let them Come

Let Them Come has so far been a lot of fun. This game is simple and because it is simple you just know that there is going to be a bigger skill gap. All you have to do is aim higher or lower with the gun and fire primarily. That’s it, so you know things are going to get mixed up.

Let Them Come throws you straight into the action with Rock Gunar smoking a cigar (he will get cancer if the aliens don’t get him) but warned that the aliens are coming. he takes out the cigar, turns on some music and starts up his gun. players now take over and attempt to fend of a large group of aliens charging for him. we say “attempt” because you can’t… well not for long anyway. The combination of Grunts and Spiderlings will eventually overwhelm you. Overtime you die you get to restart the wave but first have the option to access the storage. here you can buy new items, weapons, ammo etc. So you get your first item to support you which is the knife. this is useful for cutting any enemies like spiderlings that try to jump on you. Now you stand a chance.

The missions all continue like that. You fight hard to build as much cash (or credits or whatever) as possible. Then you die (and you will die), which gives the opportunity to purchase upgrades like ‘Rapid fire’ which increases your fire rate. Then maybe get some grades as the group of aliens are coming in larger numbers at once and one grenade could solve all your problems. The problem though is what grenade should you use. There are many inn Let Them Come. There are molotov to set ground and aliens on fire, shock which electrifies an area damaging all aliens that come through or the cluster grenade which explodes into smaller fragments which also explode. This game is deeper than just pointing and shooting. It’s get crazy. Almost as crazy as Rock Gunar’s attitude. He doesn’t seem to mind that the aliens are coming, matter of fact he looks happy. As he fires the gun the excitement becomes too obvious on his face. before they come he is just casually sitting down having a cigar. Too calm.

The amount of different ammo you can purchase in Let Them Come makes things cooler. There is the regular ammo which is unlimited. Next is piercing ammo which… well… pierces through all enemies. Explosive ammo is heavy duty and the explosion ain’t weak either, it literally destroys everything. Frost ammo to slow down and freeze enemies buying you more time. All other ammo aren’t unlimited. Ammo runs out faster than players initially think. So don’t think you can just buy some ammo and then destroy everything. not going to happen. you have to manage how you use your ammo. Maybe wait until a long line of aliens come for you and then use your piecing ammo to damage all of them at the same time. So being strategic and quick thinking is essential. also learning how to properly use the gun as it is at times difficult to hit a spiderling on the floor or at an angle. Also don’t overheat your gun. Yep, over heating is a problem as well.

The aliens are the ones who make everything interesting. There are so many types of enemies that you have to adjust and think how you should handle the wave of aliens that come your way in Let Them Come. For example spiderlings force players to aim high and low at times and time when to swing your knife or bat to kill them when they jump at you which momentarily stops you from firing. Bursters force players to focus on them as they are pretty much an instant kill if they touch you but their evolved version the Whirler takes more damage and releases eggs when destroyed if pink so players have to watch multiple things and certain details. Then you have the gorger who won’t stop eating and negating your grenades meaning shooting alone and off course the Shielder which blocks all incoming fire with it’s rock hard shield arms. This sin’t even half the cast of aliens. The campaign has bosses as well which really bring the fight. The video below is X35 Earthwalker taking on the blog boss:

So when they come in combinations and numbers things get real crazy. Imagine hounds which are bigger versions of grunts charging at you protected by a shielder in front followed by some whirlers. sounds bad right? It’s a lot of fun and certainly will make players concentrate. However Let Them Come does have some serious negatives though. Firstly on the Xbox One, if you try to record a clip or take a screen shot using the game DVR the game restarts you back at the level that you started from. So if you turned on your game and continued from wave 9, played to wave 12 and did something awesome so you recorded the last 30 seconds the game will bring you back to wave 9 with the money and items that you had on wave 9. It;’s really frustrating. what’s worse is that Let Them Come got an update and for some reason X35 Earthwalker lost his in game progress which is so bad as X35 Earthwalker completed the campaign and was on the campaign plus which was more difficult. This sucks completely and it better not happen again. Lastly YouTubers beware when recording this game as the music from the music box is copyrighted so you can’t use that on YouTube so be careful. Ye were warned.

Overall Let Them Come is a great game. It’s simple meaning that anyone can play it but skills is certainly needed to get anywhere as things get real difficult real quick. The range of options for ammo and items are really good and allows you to mix things up. There is a boss challenge mode and a rampage mode but we haven’t tried that yet as our progress got erased. So we do recommend that you try Let Them Come as you will get your moneys worth and more of fun. Your progress may get reseted or erased but you can never erase… the ‘Earth Walk!’

Let Them Come - X35 Earthwalker

‘Let them come’ is a new fast paced shoot em up game developed by ‘Tuatara Games’. It’s coming out the 3rd of October for Xbox One and PC. Now this game sounds simple and technically is but let’s take a look.

In Let them come you play a mercenary for hire, called Rock Gunar. Right now he has one mission… “to eradicate alien scum, one wave at a time”.. because after all who wants to take them all on at once? Now Rock Gunar has quite the experience on the field. He even spent 20 years in the special forces and has had cameo roles in alien, aliens, men in black and predator; however we don’t remember seeing him in any of those but whatever.

Players stay in the left handmade of the screen always in Let them come. You are set up with your big gun that mows down enemies. The aliens all rush you in an attempt to kill you once and for all. All you have to do is keep firing and kill them all, one wave at a time. Now it sounds simple, which it is but it’s truly difficult. This is because there are many types of aliens coming at you. For example: ‘Grunt’ is your simple run at you enemy, ‘Shielder’ can protect itself from frontal attacks, ‘Wasp’ are small, fast and able to dodge bullets, ‘Dangler’ moves along the ceiling and can lay eggs to release ‘Spiderlings’, ‘Wyrm’ appears from underground and fires a projectiles, ‘Burster’ which can explode if it gets close and many more aliens.

To deal with all this, there is a lot of weapons, ammo and upgrades for players to use to survive. Secondary items like a combat knife, throwing knives, a zapper, chainsaw, riot shield and more. Ammo like, shock, incendiary, cluster, explosive, piercing and more. Upgrades like, cluster mod, rapid fire, red cell shot, cooling, power suit and more. So make sure to have the items that will help you like using the knife to attack swat away wasps and have piercing ammo for dealing with Shielder aliens.

So in Let Them Come, players will unlock new weapons and will have to select their loadout. Some levels are very dark and so you must use explosions and tracer fire to see and counter the horde strategically. Off course there is an online leaderboard for competitive reasons. There is a boombox that allows players to decide what music they want to listen to as they blast away aliens. There are also some powerful and dangerous bosses that are ferocious. They will not go down easy at all. If you haven’t guessed it yet, Let Them Come is a pixel art game so it’s pixel graphics.

Overall, Let Them Come is a very cool game. It’s done well and the humour is there. Lots of weapons and options, Nice music and gives us choice of it. Many different aliens to fight. It does it well. The developers ‘Tuatara Games’ did a great job with this game. We at X35 Earthwalker are looking forward to this. Let Them Come might be worth checking out. Sure, let them come but what’s always here is… the ‘Earth Walk!’.
